Hilarious, sassy, and entertaining, Pitch Perfect serves all audience members provoking a burst of endless laughs and claps throughout the film as it served its purpose.

Initially, we must admit, coming into the film, we thought it was going to be another cheesy chick-flick with roll-you-eye kind of humor – I mean what what could you expect with the tag-line “Get pitch-slapped!” This was not the case however, although the plot line was cheesy, the humor and performances made up for it and we found ourselves laughing hard with the audience for most of the entire film.

Pitch Perfect is like Glee, but with more humor, less drama, and tailored perfectly for college students -which is probably why the humor was a success.

Although the storyline is slightly weak, the performances took over the film. Anna Kendrick does a superb job playing a college freshman, Beca, who marches to her own beat. An aspiring DJ and music producer, Beca decides to join an all-female a cappella group at Barden U (a fictional college), called The Barden Bellas. Stuck in the same routine, song, and boring outfit, The Bellas needed some spunk, Beca helps to spice up the group.

Their counterparts and rivals, are The Treblemakers, a male a cappella group . During recruitment, a charming student, Jesse (Skylar Astin) who has an eye for Beca, joins The Treblemakers. According to The Bellas’ leader, Beca is forbidden to hook up with a Treblemaker.

The best part of the film? Fat Amy. Rebel Wilson, best known from the hit film Bridesmaids, does a splendid performance and had us laughing from beginning to end. Audiences will hear aweome renditions of mainstream songs like Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You’ve Been Gone,” Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.,” and many more.

Along with a few unfamiliar faces, Kendrick, Wilson, and Astin can sure sing a number! I was most surprised to hear Kendrick rap “No-Diggity” and I was impressed. And all of the leading girls, Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Anna Camp had impressive voices!

And… drumroll please…. McGLOVIN from Superbad did make appearances, -key word appearances. The crowd was excited to see a favorite familiar character, but although I must say, I was slightly disappointed that he did not have a bigger part in the film.

This film could have been a total flop since the story is a typical, music competition film, however, with interesting characters and actual singing talent, it sure exceeded my expectations. Pitch Perfect is not an Oscar worthy film, but rather a film for everyone to get up, dance, laugh, and sing-a-long as you please.
