Ways to Treat Yourself After Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

October is now upon us, which means it’s time for all things spooky: Haunted houses, pumpkin carving, and midterms. Midterms can take a lot out of a girl; we have to basically relearn everything from the beginning of the semester until now while running on little to no sleep. It’s probably one of the most stressful weeks of the semester, after finals week. While it’s not always easy to practice perfect self-care, I believe it’s important to treat oneself after half of a semester of hard work. These are a few ways that an overworked girl can treat herself after midterms.

1. Visit your favorite coffee shop!

You will probably be pretty exhausted after a week of all-nighters and studying nonstop, and one way that I love to treat myself at the end of the week is by visiting my favorite local coffee shop. A warm drink makes me feel cozier in this cold fall weather, and it’s a nice treat after a stressful week.

2. Visit a pumpkin patch.

Pumpkin patches are pretty much essential to fall. While most people use them for taking cute Instagram photos, I find it fun to actually pick pumpkins that I can bring back to my apartment. For me, it brings back childhood memories of visiting the pumpkin patch with my family and picking pumpkins with them. It’s relaxing, and plus you get to add a touch of fall to your living space in the process.

3. Take a long relaxing bath/shower.

After feeling the weight of midterms for a week, a lot of stress and worry can build up in a person. I find that taking a super long and hot shower helps the stress simply melt away. It’s also a great way to let out a cry if needed. I always go into a shower feeling extreme stress and come out feeling clean and ready to relax, which is how people should feel once midterms end.

4. S L E E P .

The most important way to treat yourself after a long week of midterms to finally sleep for a full night. During midterms season, all of the homework, tests, and projects can stack up at once, leaving one with little time to sleep. Once midterms are over, the load of school work lightens up for a bit, so use this time to your advantage and finally sleep!

5. Have a “Me Day”

Finally, after completing all of your midterms, you deserve to take some time to yourself! Try having a “Me Day” where you spend the day rewarding yourself for all of your hard work. This can include sleeping in, face masks, staying in comfortable clothes, watching your favorite movie, and basically anything that you find enjoyable! You earned it, so make this day about you!

One of the hardest parts of the semester is finally out of the way! So no matter how you did on your exams, remember that you tried your best, and no grade is the end of the world. Enjoy yourself after putting in all of your hard work from this week, because you deserve it!
