Why You Should Use A Planner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

College students tend to have a lot on their plates, whether it’s from taking classes, working, participating in extracurriculars, and somehow still leaving room in order to have a social life. For me in particular, I am taking six classes this semester in addition to being Vice President of an on campus service organization, having a job, and of course, writing for Her Campus.

Sometimes when I think of all of my commitments I tend to get overwhelmed; to be honest it’s a lot to keep track of. Luckily, I own one thing that has been keeping me sane through all that I do – my planner.

Plan it out

In the beginning of each semester, I look at the syllabus for each of my classes and I add all of the due dates into my planner. This way, when I look at my planner for the upcoming month or week, I can see all of my deadlines at once and am never stressed that I am forgetting something.

Color coordination

The way that I keep my planner organized is by color coordination, I use one color for each class, that way I never become confused! I have one color that I use for each subject and additional colors for each extracurricular and for work.

Game changer

Ever since I started using a planner, I never forget any important dates or deadlines that I may have without using one. It has helped me start my work and complete it earlier than I normally would, and even helps me space out larger projects so I don’t end up trying to complete everything at once. I never go anywhere without my planner, and it’s changed the way I approach each day drastically.
