Halloween is here! Which means decorating, pumpkin everything, and scary movies. If you’re like me, you tend to shy away from the last one. Scary movies just aren’t my cup of tea. That is, I can’t even hold a cup of tea after watching one because I’m shaking so badly. However, there are plenty of other Haloween movies that are not very scary, and are extremely entertaining: here are 5 of my favorites!
1. Ghostbusters
WHO YA GONNA CALL?! GHOSTBUSTERS! This classic movie is relativity un-scary, unless, of course, you’re afraid of the Stay-Puft marshmallow man, but I seriously doubt that. It’s packed full of humor and iconic scenes, the series can set you up for a marathon! Pop in one of these movies, and get ready for some slimy, crazy, and chaotic ghosts!Â

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas
This Tim Burton classic is packed with stunning claymation, catchy music, and characters of increasing interest. The movie follows the story of the pumpkin king Jack Skellington in his search for something new to use in his holiday preparations. The Halloween bound character stumbles upon Christmastown and then tries to put his spin on St. Nick’s holiday. The movie has a handful of creepy scenes but doesn’t scare watchers to the point of checking their windows and doors while leaving the lights on all night. It also teaches a lesson that stores should try and follow: Halloween and Christmas should stay separate.Â

3. The Addams Family (1991)
Despite the Gif’s warning, The Addams Family is nothing to be afraid of! This classic movie recently got an animated makeover, but the original movie is certainly a story to behold! Focused on one weird, quirky, and loveable family, the movie showcases the story of a would-be thief turned family member. Of course, the movie is filled with other side-plots that highlight each family member’s own traits and hobbies that give you at least an hour’s worth of laughs!

4. Corpse Bride
Tim Burton AKA the king of Halloween does it again in his movie Corpse Bride! This love story stays true Burton’s spooky expertise by putting a spin on the classic katabasis type of story; the main character Victor finds himself in a sticky situation but quickly realizes all he needs is right in front of him. That is, of course, in front of him above ground, and not in the underworld that he’d been swept into by chance! Both visually pleasing and NOT scary, Corpse Bride is a Halloween movie that everyone can enjoy!Â

5. Zombieland
This movie isn’t as Halloween based as the others, but it does have one very important Halloween element: zombies! The comedy follows a ragtag group of enemies turned friends and their adventure to find various things in the apocalyptic world: a twinkie, a family, and a safe haven. It is relatively scare-free unless of course, you’re scared of zombies, then it could be scary. Overall, the movie is a funny, light-hearted, and enjoyable story that is soon to be continued! The sequel, Zombieland 2: Doubletap, is set to be released on October 18th, so the two-part series is perfect for the month of October.
