Whether they’re cooking your hometown favorites or creating a dish so obscure you can’t even begin to identify it, Sodexo always dishes up something interesting to expand our culinary horizons. So, in honor of multicultural week, let’s count down the five best international food finds they have to offer.
5. Ravioli Bar—Move over, Olive Garden. Sodexo brings you all the joys and wonders of Italy, with sauces and cheese fillings galore, in their ravioli offerings. Their dishes are creamy, spicy, and full of warmth. Who doesn’t like unlimited pasta?! The only thing keeping this dish from being higher on this list is that they NEVER HAVE IT. C’mon, Sodexo, throw us a bone once in a while.
4. Sushi—I’ll be honest. I don’t personally partake in this dish, as it weirds me out. However, it earned its spot on this list because the effort that Sodexo has put into staying hip with the latest food trends deserves to be recognized. Think about how hard it would be to make normal, everyday American food for thousands of college students each day. Now think about making delicate, ornate sushi rolls for everyone. It’s darn impressive.
3. Crepe Bar—What do I know about crepes? They’re light and delicious, they’re vaguely French, and, whenever Sodexo offers them, I take ten. In the past, Sodexo has served up these crepes with sweet fillings and fruit as an international dessert dish. Ooo la la!
2. Spatzel—I know, I know, I know. What’s this weird, beige dumpling doing at the #2 spot on the best foods list? It’s oily and squishy and a little sketchy, but there’s just something about it. When I eat it, I feel like the Sodexo staff have all turned into little old grandmothers who want to spoon-feed me carbs and tell me what it was like to live in the fifties. It’s oddly comforting—I just can’t get enough.
1. Tacos—I repeat- TACOS. Are you really surprised? They’re simple, filling, and versatile. Basically, they’re the perfect food. When Sodexo has taco days, the possibilities are endless. Nacho bowls, hard tacos, soft tacos, beef tacos, chicken tacos, bean tacos—I could go on for days. More importantly, I could eat them for days.
Remember to enjoy the eclectic array of dishes that Sodexo puts out for us every day. Whether you love it or hate it, you can always count on the cafeteria to serve up something interesting.
Most importantly—take five seconds out of your day to thank a cafeteria worker for all they do. They do all the dirty work, so we can enjoy our food in peace. Thanks, guys!
