A side of Me: Episode 2

Who is the D.E.I. Ambassador?

The Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ambassador will be one of the key peer mentors to our multicultural students, providing a warm welcome during the Multicultural House Social and maintaining contact through programming and outreach, and assisting with the efforts of the Diversity Work Group. My job is to help plan, organize, and implement Multicultural Week and Civil Rights Week in cooperation with the Coordinator of D.E.I. An Ambassador is someone with maturity, integrity, and a genuine appreciation for diversity. The individual must have or be able to develop strong public relations, communication, time management, and organizational skills. The most important asset is an eagerness to promote a diverse university community. We haveĀ 14 D.E.I. clubs with a few being Her Campus, DAPi, SAAT, MAVO, BSU, LU, SWE, STEP, and more.

I spend most of my time helping build heritage/history month displays. I also build the monthly newsletter where we future our D.E.I. clubs on the campus. I get to run council meetings between the clubs where they come together to discuss things and share events. I will also help with first gen events, DEI Work groups, admission events, and anything that my boss needs me to do. The best part of my job is seeing when the clubs succeed in membership numbers, successful events, bringing campus awareness and more. I love my job everyday and that it gives me so many opportunities to work with a diverse group of people.

I am preparing to student teach in the Spring which means that my time as the Ambassador is coming to an end. This is my second year in the position and I am sad to see it end but I am so grateful for all who have believed in me to do this job. I have to thank my boss Fritz and Ryan for always teaching me, believing in me, and helping make connections for my future.
