Coffee: Not Just for Staying Awake

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SAU chapter.

Collegiettes™, it’s that time of the year again. It’s the beginning of a new semester, and not far along are deadlines and sleepless nights. It’s safe to say that coffee will be our companion during those long nights and dreary mornings to an 8 a.m. class. The stress and racing thoughts in our minds will take a toll on our bodies. The harsh winter weather will just add to our misfortunes. Coffee will not only help us stay awake, but it will also help our skin glow. So drink a cup and rub it on your skin with a coffee scrub!

Our skin is constantly neglected, but it’s never been easier to care for healthy skin. In moderation, coffee is a powerful dose of antioxidants. It helps to maintain a healthy heart and can slow down the aging process. However, drinking large amounts of coffee may be unhealthy and have consequences on the skin. Coffee increases dehydration, which results in dry skin. A coffee scrub will help do wonders to the skin and to your wallet! It’s a cheap and effective way to have beautiful skin with a college girl’s wallet. It’s also free of harsh chemicals that are found in store bought body scrubs. There is only one ingredient required that is affordable and easy to obtain: coffee of course!

Rub about 3 tablespoons of brewed coffee grounds in circular motions all over your body or wherever needed in the shower, then rinse. Brewed coffee is the best to use because the moist coffee grounds will be scrubbed on easily. The trick is to scrub gently. Applying the scrub vigorously will result in irritated skin. The benefits to the scrub are countless. It increases blood flow, exfoliates, and helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The coffee grounds are rough enough to remove the dead skin cells, but gentle enough to encourage blood flow and give a beautiful glow. The caffeine in coffee helps to firm the skin, which is why it reduces the appearance of cellulite. The skin will also gain anti-aging properties because of the high concentration of antioxidants. Plus, there’s an added bonus of smelling yummy!

So drink up and enjoy its flavor and benefits. It helps recycle, it gives you healthy skin, and it won’t break your bank. What’s not to love? We have another reason to love coffee and confirm why it’s a busy girl’s best friend!
