This year, Her Campus SAU is very excited to gain new members. Our first new writer is this week’s Campus Celebrity, senior Deanna Dippolito.
Deanna is a Chicago native working on an English major with a music minor. In addition to writing for Her Campus, Deanna has been involved heavily in the music department, as this has always been a passion of hers. She has been a part of student piano recitals, university chorus concerts, and chamber singers concerts.
After reading some Her Campus SAU articles last year, Deanna was inspired to join the group. “I love to write and I thought it would be a great experience for me.”
This summer, Deanna had an internship writing grants for Genuine Voices, a non-profit organization that uses music to enrich the lives of at-risk youth. “We need to focus on younger people because we really are the future. I think it’s important for young people to find outlets to express themselves like with music or art, so they can have hope and a better future.”
Despite these aspirations, Deanna is truly enjoying her last year at St. Ambrose. “I will miss the in-between stage of my life. College is so great because you are on your own but not yet fully responsible for everything. I will not miss the cafeteria food (sorry!).”
She also wants others to take full advantage of everything the college life implies and “just “live it up!” She advised other collegiettes to experience everything available to them by joining clubs, meeting new people, and getting involved in things you are interested in because you never know where you might find your true passion.
After graduation in May, Deanna is hopeful. Although she isn’t certain exactly what she wants to do, she would like to have a grant writing position for a non-profit organization, much like she did this summer. Another option would be something in the copywriting field. On the side, she hopes to be able to teach piano to children as well.
Some fun facts about Deanna:
· My record for most sneezes in a row is 11 times!
· I love to bake and decorate cakes. I almost dropped out of Ambrose to go to pastry school. Crazy right?
· I’m pretty clumsy. I legit drop my cell phone at least 2 times a day.. (it’s a trooper!)
· I’m a big vampire geek!
· I’m pretty superstitious. I don’t really like to be, but sometimes I really freak myself out. You won’t see me walking under any ladders or opening an umbrella indoors.
