Having a kitchen this year makes my heart so happy. Tonight, I spent the evening preparing these beauties.

Strawberry chocolate chip cookies. Completely from scratch. I must say, I am pretty proud of myself. They are absolutely delicious. The added bonus? My room smells amazing.

I baked these for our event, Think Pink: Girl Power on the Silver Screen. This event is going to be awesome. Lots of snacks, watching Legally Blonde, making friendship bracelets, and massages from students at La’James. What’s not to love?!

The best thing about this event is the cause behind it. We are suggesting everyone considers making a $2 donation to go to Susan G. Komen. This is the largest breast cancer awareness, research, and support organization in the world. It has raised over $1.5 billion dollars for its cause.

Susan G. Komen lost her battle with breast cancer in 1980. Her sister believed “Suzy” could have been saved had there been more resources and research. She started the organization and the rest is history. It’s amazing, Susan was from Peoria, Ill., just about an hour and a half from here. The story of this organization really shows how far passion and motivation can go.

I have never been affected by breast cancer. I’ve never had any scares, it doesn’t run in my family, none of my closest friends have moms that have been affected. But it is still something I am passionate about and something every woman should be passionate about. Heck, men should be passionate about it too. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. That is over 220,000 women in the US every year. It is the most common form of cancer and also the second leading cause of death among women.

But thanks to increased awareness and also several medical discoveries, these rates are declining. All thanks to organizations like Susan G. Komen. This foundation gives women hope and power.

Anyone is at risk. It doesn’t necessarily have to run in your family. You can lead the healthiest lifestyle in the world and still be affected. There is absolutely no knowing. So it is important to be aware, be passionate, and help when you can. As women, it is our duty to empower women. By coming to our event and leaving a small donation, that is exactly what you are doing.

If you can’t make the donation, whatever the reason, come anyways. Your presence will be enough.

So come hang out with us. Eat some cookies, get your girly on, and continue to support breast cancer awareness and spread the power of women. It will be totally worth it.
