If you’ve ever been on a healthy eating journey, you know that refraining from sugar can be difficult. I try to “spend” my sugar on coffee. Here’s an EASY recipe for you to follow at home (or in your dorm!).
Iced Vanilla Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 part Milk (Whole milk;Â Creamer-Â if you want to go ALL the way; Almond milk- my favorite!!)
- 1-3 tbsp Simple Syrup (recipe included below!)
- 2 parts Chilled or Room-temp Coffee
- Ice (your preference!)
Directions:
- Mix together 1-3 tbsp of simple syrup (totally depends on preference of sweetness) with milk and ice.
- Add ice mixture to coffee.
- Enjoy!
Â
*SWEETÂ TIP*Â Usually I have 2 cups of coffee with 1 cup of milk added. I also go the 3 tbsp route because you have to go hard or go home.

Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 cups Water
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract (or whatever flavoring you choose!)
Directions for those with an accessible kitchen:
- On a stovetop, combine sugar and water.
- Dissolve sugar. Try not to overdo it, as the water will evaporate.
- Remove from heat.
- Add extract of choice! Mix together.
- Store in fridge.
Directions for those stuck in a dorm:
- Cut your ingredients down. Start with 1/2 cup sugar to 1 cup water and 1 tsp of extract.
- Microwave water and sugar mixture for 30 seconds.
- Mix.
- Repeat until sugar is dissolved.
- Add extract.
- Store in your glorious mini fridge.

This basic recipe allows you to modify whatever you need! Some days I feel the need to have some bitter coffee, so I will cut down on the simple syrup. Caramel extract is also a great substitute for vanilla when you want a comfort beverage. Enjoy! Try not to spend your student loan money on going out for coffee with friends!
