With Earth Day just around the corner (April 22nd), what better way to celebrate our Mother Earth than to learn how to care for her? Here are some ways that you can help the Earth be a better place for our future.
Reduce!
Reduce your plastic waste.
One way to use less plastic is to buy products with little to no plastic packaging.
- Some examples of this are:
- Bar soap instead of liquid
- Bar shampoo and conditioner
- Bamboo toothbrushes
- Deodorant with eco-friendly packaging
- Makeup with non-plastic packaging
Reduce your consumption.
Limit what you use and how much you use it. This can help limit the greenhouse gasses that are filling our Ozone.
- Some of the many ways to do this are:
- Unplugging or turning off any electric items that you are not using
- Using a 5 minute timer during your shower
- Making sure to turn the water off while brushing your teeth
- Buying second-hand clothing or wearing hand-me-downs
- Donate your old clothes
- Stop buying fast fashion items
Reuse!
Buy alternatives and have reusable items.
This is another way to reduce your plastic use.Â
- Examples of this are:
- Menstrual cups or reusable cloth menstrual pads
- Reusable water bottles instead of plastic
- Bringing your own cup to coffee shops
- Use reusable straws made out of metal, glass, or bamboo.
- Reusable snack bags
Recycle!
Recycling is not just putting empty bottles and boxes into a bin.
Here are ways most people don’t realize they can recycle:Â
- Turning old items into a DIY project!Â
- Donating used items like books
- Selling or trading products with companies or stores
Know what can’t be recycled in your bin.
Find places that will properly dispose or recycle your items like these:
- Batteries
- Old phones or electronics
- Clothes
- Scrap metals
And last but not least:
Research!
Don’t be deceived by greenwashing companies! Make sure your items are environmentally friendly. Take time to learn about what’s best for our Earth!
