Transfer student, Joe Montez is this week’s Campus Celebrity! This busy senior is double majoring in art history and history. Native to a small town in Illinois called Spring Valley, Joe decided to transfer from a local community college to St. Ambrose because of the “at home” atmosphere.
It’s only Joe’s second year on campus and he has been involved in plenty of SAU activities like the Student Alumni Association. He is also a history fair judge and a moderator for the Undergraduate Scholars Conference.
Joe’s favorite part of college is “Meeting new people and being able to learn, not just from classes but from everyone’s experiences and their own beliefs.” But, he dislikes trying to balance a full schedule of classes.
Joe gives advice to underclassmen: “Experience all that you can during your college years, it goes by very quickly. Before you know it you’re ready for graduation and moving on to bigger and better parts of your life.”
For plans after college, he hopes to earn his master’s degree in art history and return to his community college or a larger university as a professor.
