College is tough. Mountains of homework, unfamiliar responsibilities and trying live in the moment while preparing for the future. These years that are supposed to be “the best of your life” can also be the most challenging. But new services provided by the Counseling Center will help.
Every Thursday, a different program will be lead by campus counselor, Amy Scott. On the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, a Relaxation and Stress Reduction class will be held. These classes will be different each week, teaching students effective ways to simmer down, per se. Classes will focus on developing helpful deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness meditation, visualization, and more. Â
The classes will be held at 7:30p.m. in Hayes Hall 114N. No RSVP is necessary. All students are more than welcome any given week.
On the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, more intense sessions will be held. The Mind, Body, and Soul Workshop for Women is a private and intimate workshop only for seriously interested students. These sessions will be more specific in nature.
Catered to women who talk critically about their bodies, focus too much on appearance, and diet or have irregular eating habits, the Mind, Body and Soul Workshops are created to help change these beliefs and behaviors. The series of events are focused on women learning to love their bodies and change unhealthy and harmful behaviors. Empowerment is the key and the ultimate goal of these new workshops.
The series will start on October 17 at 7:30p.m. in the South Annex Room, on the third floor of the Rogalski Center. No RSVP needed, but only those very seriously interested should attend. For more information about these services, contact Amy Scott at ScottAmyM@sau.edu
