As many collegiettes are probably aware, campus elections are just around the corner. Here is some of the information you can use to make an educated decision in the race!
Kevin Annis, from Joliet, Ill., is one of the candidates running for student body president. He is a criminal justice and business management major. Kevin’s goal for Student Government Association, especially if elected president, is to make a difference in the Ambrose community.
Being involved has been a major part of Annis’ time at St. Ambrose and is a major part of his platform. At SAU, Kevin is a resident advisor in Franklin and will be an RA in Bechtel next year. Collegiettes may be familiar with Annis because of his involvement in campus ministry as an Eucharistic minister and a worker on Antioch retreats. He is also a part of Habitat for Humanity. This year, he was involved in planning the Collegiate Challenge trip to Charleston, South Carolina. On this trip, he was able to help restore a 100-year-old home.
However, it is difficult for Annis to choose just one activity that he is most passionate about.
“I love them all.”
He hopes to be able to share these valuable opportunities with other students. As president, he would aim “to make sure everyone enjoys their SAU experience.”
Annis and his running mate, sophomore Antonio Raya, have many ideas for how to build the Ambrose community. Their first goal is to help clubs and organizations provide more opportunities for student involvement by putting their ideas into action.Â
Next, Annis would like to figure out how to implement more printing stations on campus. He feels this would be more convenient for many students.
Finally, he would like to develop more areas for students to relax. Annis believes this will add to the “community atmosphere” of the SAU campus by providing more areas for socialization.
“Overall, I want to enhance the Ambrose experience for everyone from graduate students to incoming freshmen. I will do everything I can to make their SAU experience the best years of their lives. ”
These are just a few of the ideas Annis would like to implement. He is always open to finding the right change. Instead of just working to make extreme changes, Annis would like to hear from students who may feel their suggestions are small or inconsequential.
“There are ideas to enhance the community on campus, and they don’t always need to be huge and out of the box.”
Annis has thoroughly enjoyed his time at St. Ambrose. He greatly values the friendships he has made. The friendly, community atmosphere is something he truly values. He feels that SAU is unique because even if you don’t know someone, you can wave and smile and receive the same in return. The professors are another benefit Annis finds in his Ambrose experience, expressing that they are always open “to doing anything they can to help.”
Annis’s advice to collegiettes and other underclassmen is simple. “Get involved.” Stressing the importance of taking the first step, Annis urges students to go to meetings and see what clubs are all about. By being involved, he believes that students can make many friends and connections.
“Get out there and meet as many people as you can. I can only hope that people will get involved and meet tons of people and enjoy their time here as much as I have.”
