If you participated in CommUNITY Day or are a member of Marketing Club chancec are pretty high that you know this week’s campus celebrity, Martha Toth! In between her busy schedule, this bee lover is quite the intersting, well, Bee. Â
Graduation year: 2015
Year in school: Senior!
Hometown. Sterling, IL
Major/minor: Marketing
Interests/hobbies: I love to read, and knit, and craft, play with and walk dogs, bake, always making things.
Campus involvement: Exec board Marking Club (design director), Habitat (PR director, builder) Her Campus (writer, social media chair), CommUNITY Day chair, organizer
Dream job/why: New York Times best-selling novelist “I want to touch other people the way writers have touched my life,” Toth says. Or she would love to create Super Bowl commericals that are about more than just a product. Ones that tell a story are heart-felt and compassionate.
Plans after graduation: Studying abroad in London for 2 months! Finding a real job in marketing or advertising. “My creative self is my happiest self.”Â
Role model(s): Growing up it was Nancy Drew, but now it is my grandma that I haven’t met because she did so much in her short life. She was thrown out of her country because she fought with the Hungarian underground against the Soviets. She used to make wedding gowns. I have so many strong women on both sides of my family, lots with college degrees. I’m really lucky for that.
How did you get involved in Marketing Club: It was the first thing I joined when I transferred. It was the only business club and I had been in business club at old school. I had a good time at the meetings and just kept coming back.
What is your title/position: Design director (put together fliers, pamphlets, posters, agendas for meetings) Photoshop expert.
What is your favorite part of Marketing Club: The opportunities I’ve gained including going on trips to other cities such as NYC (see pic below)! Or the companies I’ve gotten to make contact with, the people we’ve networked with and the opportunities I wouldn’t have gotten any other way.
Do you have any advice for underclassmen: Don’t be afraid to be yourself, especially in class. You’re here for an education, so don’t let other people intimidate you in class. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and talk to your professors. GET INVOLVED. Marketing club has given me the experience that I’ll need for other jobs, and I’ve gained experience working with different types of people.
Favorite quote/motto to live by: Eleanor Roosevelt “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Helen Keller “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
3 things people don’t know about you: Speaks Hungarian, went ziplining in Costa Rica on one of the highest zip lines in the world, member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Is there anything you would like to include:Â Â I’m currently interning at Quad City Bank and Trust and am a dog sitter for Sophie and Kyser!
