I’ve always felt envious of people who had a life motto or things that they lived by. I guess there was just nothing that resonated with me enough. Obviously, there are things like the golden rule and being nice to others, but that just seemed like a given to me. It’s something that most people live by. I kind of wanted something that was unique and that I found for myself. It took me over 19 years of life to find a motto that I wanted to fully live by, and here are my thoughts on the phrase “Find Inspiration In The Ordinary.”
Find inspiration in the ordinary. This phrase came to me one day as I was sitting down trying to write a song. And slowly but surely it has turned into what I try to live my life by.
Inspiration is not just for art or music or writing or anything in between. Inspiration is also sometimes for the daily, mundane tasks that aren’t quite second nature.
Finding inspiration in the ordinary is about looking around at the world around you and finding the small things that help you keep going. Look forward to the sunset as your way of getting out of bed in the morning. Envision the accomplishment of a clean room as a way to clean the pile of dirty dishes on your desk. Getting to appreciate the flowers that are growing and the sights and smells of spring as you are walking to class.
Finding inspiration in the ordinary isn’t just for some niche goal. Whether you are at practice, in class at work, just living, use the world around you as motivation to finish one more rep, try another problem, send one more email, take one step forward.
Because life is not easy. Continuing to get up and choosing to live each day is not easy. But taking in the little things, the feeling of the sun on your skin, watching people laugh without a care in the world, smile at the birds flying in the sky. Appreciating the little things in life will little by little make living easier. And appreciating the little things in life will make the world that much more beautiful.
So, find inspiration in the ordinary.
This phrase has come to mean so much to me. And something inside me compelled me to share it with others. So I hope that this can resonate with someone out there and hopefully this can make life just a little easier and a little less stressful.
