TED Talks are my newfound guilty pleasure and I am not ashamed to admit it. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design- and TED Talks are about anything and everything and are basically just talks, broadcasted over YouTube, that are so worth sharing. TED talks inspire me, challenge me, teach me, and are absolutely amazing. They are the perfect study break and best midday motivation. TED Talks continue to open my eyes and they are so very, very underrated. So I am wanting to share with you some of the TED Talks that have really changed my life. I hope you consider checking them out for yourself- you won’t regret it.
1. Brene Brown- The Power of Vulnerability
Brene Brown is one of my #1 most favorite people in the world. Her book The Gifts of Imperfection has helped me through the best and worst times of my life. She is a college professor in Houston, TX who dedicates a lot of her research to vulnerability, shame, and courage. She is so powerful, raw, and real. This personal talk discusses how important vulnerability is. The talk really reminded me that it is okay to not be okay. And, according to her research, those who are vulnerable are actually happier and feel more deserving of love.
2. Meg Jay- Why 30 Is Not the New 20
This one is a must watch for ANY college student. Meg Jay really lays it out on the table- the way we spend our time in our 20s is critical. From careers to relationships to future families, Jay explains the importance of making the most of these years because they really do determine the rest of our lives. If you ever need some REALLY good motivation, be sure to check this one out.
3. Andrew Solomon- Love, No Matter What
This one is a tear jerker. Solomon discusses the power and importance of love- regardless of conditions. Solomon challenges listeners to separate disorders and diseases from the identity. To not let a struggle become a loved ones identity. He gives a challenging and emotional talk that will really open your eyes.
4. Rita Pierson- Every Kid Needs a Champion
Who doesn’t love kids? Pierson is wildly motivational, discussing the importance of giving kids amazing role models. I loved this video. Anyone who loves kids will love this video. This is especially important for education majors and also for all of those involved with the amazing dance marathon. Please, please watch this. And do something about it- take action.
These are just 4 of my favorite TED Talks. My list could go on forever. Get out there and explore. They teach me so much about myself. There really is so much to take advantage of on the social media and I challenge all of you to take some time to check it out. You never know what you’ll find.
