I would first like to start with the typical “Congratulations.” Whether you finished SAU in four years or less, or had to take an extra lap, you’re just about done. The thought of freshmen move in day feels like it was just yesterday, and you’re not quite sure what’s going on with all of your emotions. No matter how you’re feeling about your upcoming graduation status, just know that I’m proud — we’re all proud. You did it.
Before I get too emotional, however, there are some much-needed thank you’s to be issued. In no particular order:
Thank you for welcoming the classes under you with open arms. We were scared as H E double hockey sticks walking onto campus on move in day freshman year, but you showed us the ropes and taught us everything we needed to know.
Thank you for not judging us (too harshly) when you found out that we turned Bechtel into a bigger party dorm than Cosgrove and when we caused 2x the normal amount of EMT visits. The class of 2017 may not have had their sh*t together at first, but with your help, they learned to tone it down a few notches.
Thank you being our second set of parents. Whether you helped us with our four-year plan or helped us avoid difficult professors, you basically raised us these last few years. You told us about the cool house parties and always showed us a good time.
Thank you for making really cool shirts. Okay, maybe my opinion is a little biased, but the members of the class of 2016 made some of the coolest Last Blast and Homecoming t-shirts to ever be seen on campus. Once you’re gone, we’ll really need some underclassmen to step up to the graphic design plate.
Thank you for serving as our mentors. You showed us what to do both in and out of class, whether you know it or not. You helped us swim, even when we were sure we would sink. You served as our role models, and you did a great job holding that position…for the most part.
Thank you for choosing SAU. You spent countless hours in the library. You celebrated Last Blast. You used an abundance of bee puns. You complained about the caf but went anyway. You lived the SAU life and you’re still alive to tell the story. Thank you for making SAU your home these last few years.
Ambrose will sure be different without the class of 2016, but just know that you all made your mark in some way. Once a Bee, always a Bee.
