This week’s campus celebrity was nominated by a fellow SAU runner because of his leadership skills on both the track and cross country teams.
Tyler Norby is a senior runner and is one of this year’s captains who has received awards such as varsity recognition and the Champion of Character which make this nomination well deserved.
Tyler is a Dubuque, Iowa native with two younger brothers. His mom is actually the one who prompted him to start running when she suggested that he try out for the cross country team at Wahlert Catholic High School.
“I had always done well in the mile run in gym class.”
So, he took his mother’s advice and joined the team his freshman year and hasn’t stopped running since.
Since coming to Ambrose, Tyler has found that he fits well with the team and has made many memories.
“It is hard to label one as the best, but my two favorites are the team winning the conference meet for cross country my freshman year and qualifying for nationals in the marathon for track.”
His qualification for nationals is one of the main reasons he was nominated for Campus Celebrity by his teammate, Pat Milder. Tyler has set an example for his teammates and he is a runner who everyone can look up to.
Although he has enjoyed his career here at Ambrose, Tyler will be graduating in December. Luckily, he plans to stick around even after that.
“I plan to enroll in the Master of Accounting program here at Ambrose.”
When he does move on, Tyler says he will miss the people of SAU.
“When I walk around campus people know me as ‘Norby.’ I am not merely a number as one may feel at larger universities. People at Ambrose take an interest in who you are. I have received a great deal of help from my friends, teachers, and coaches the past four years. These people at Ambrose will always be my friends.”
Tyler’s fun fact: He has a dog at home named Wiley, and he says that he is definitely Wiley’s favorite member of the Norby family.
