About a month ago, I turned 20 years old. I was told by my friends and family that this was a big deal, but I didn’t really feel it. Not in the same way it felt when I turned 13 and wasn’t a kid anymore, (I now know that I definitely still was), or when I turned 16 and could finally drive, or when I turned 18 and was finally considered an adult. I expected this birthday to be a lot like that because entering your 20s is a big deal, but it wasn’t. It just felt like a normal day. This could be because it took place on a Thursday when I went to class and did my homework, or because I didn’t get to celebrate with my best friend and family, but either way 20s didn’t set in until a little later. But now that it has, I’m ready to set some hopes and goals that I hope to achieve while in my 20s.
Graduate from college
Recently this one has felt much more difficult than it did in the past. I am now realizing how easy my freshman year was. Most of my time was spent hanging out with friends and learning how to be independent, but now I am taking classes crucial to my major and doing hours of homework. And it only gets harder. Hearing from upperclassmen all the obstacles and struggles I will soon have to go through sometimes makes it feel like I may never get there. So even though I don’t necessarily want to spend all my time doing homework and worrying about difficult classes, but it is necessary to graduate and hopefully get a job I enjoy, speaking of…
Find a job that I am passionate about and enjoy.
Let’s face it, most people go to college and then spend the rest of their lives working a job they don’t like in order to provide food and shelter to themselves and their families, which is the sad reality that we live in today. This makes finding and keeping a job you love very difficult but one of my greatest goals. It would be an opportunity I would be extremely lucky for and grateful to have.
Become more confident
A lot of the time I feel like I don’t belong don’t fit in or am not worthy. Hopefully, as I continue to improve and excel, I will feel more confident in my abilities and what I have accomplished. I hope to be able to share my opinion and speak my minding without fearing judgment from others.
Travel
People always say your 20s are the perfect time to travel the world, and I feel this would be an amazing experience. I would love to visit places like Paris, Greece, Mexico, and London with some of my best friends while young.
Although accomplishing all of these things may be great, life doesn’t always go as planned. If I don’t complete all these goals, that’s ok because I am very grateful for everything I have done up until this point. I have amazing friends and family who support me no matter what, and I have had the privilege of graduating high school and attending college. It is good to have hopes, dreams, and goals but also recognize all the amazing things you already have.
