Roughly a year and a half ago, I discovered Modern Family, a show that made me feel at peace. Itâs a show I can easily fall asleep to, or take time to get really invested in the plot.
I love every bit of the show from Claire and Philâs sometimes adorable, sometimes questionable relationship, Mitch and Camâs honest love for each other, and Haley and Dylanâs perseverance to be with one another.
Yes, while Andy was such a gem, he wasnât the ideal partner for Haley. Thatâs not to say that I wouldnât have loved to see Andy and Haley stay close friends and have him be involved as a âmannyâ(man nanny) for her kids, but I digress.
I love most episodes of Modern Family, but there are seven specific episodes that I can watch over and over again.
Las Vegas (Season 5, Episode 18)
This is my all-time favorite episode. The chaos of no one knowing where the others are, the way the butler, Higgins gets involved in Mitch and Camâs evening together, and every other part of their stay at their Las Vegas hotel stay, makes this episode hilarious. I could watch this episode again and again and always notice something new about it.
Philâs Sexy, Sexy House (Season 7, Episode 7)
Phil, being a real estate agent, has access to some pretty interesting houses. In this episode, the family is revealed to be using a smart house for their own needs. Andy and Haley use it to have an evening to themselves and end up realizing how much they miss each other. Itâs an episode that I canât just fall asleep to, only because of how important the video aspect is to understanding everyoneâs needs for the house. This is a top episode for me because of the way Andy and Haleyâs relationship changes after this. (P.S. I know I said that Iâm a Haley and Dylan fan, but only because of their history)
You never know who will show up next at the house and I love the suspense that each person in the house experiences when they realize they are no longer alone. This episode is both very funny and important to the love stories of each couple.
Halloween (Season 2, Episode 6)
Honestly, all of the Halloween episodes of Modern Family deserve recognition. This episode in particular, though, sticks with me because, as viewers, we are introduced to Claireâs absolute love for Halloween and all things spooky. Mitchâs costume mishap makes me laugh every time.
When itâs time for trick-or-treating and whole family is together to pass out candy at the Dunphy Haunted House, no one wants to participate and instead, everyone tells stories of their childhood. The family dynamic remains one of my favorite parts of the show.
I highly recommend you watch this episode this Halloweekend!
En Garde (Season 1, Episode 7)
Part of this episode is focused on the way Mitch and Claire have always been a major part of each otherâs lives beyond their sibling relationship. I love this episode because Mitch canât figure out how to explain to Claire how much she means to him and once he finds the words, itâs so heartwarming to see how she reacts; the little dance at the end gets me every time.
Kiss and Tell (Season 10, Episode 2)
Haleyâs relationship history has always been a bit of a mess, but this episode really shows how much she actually cares about the guys she dates. I love how whenever anyone confides in Mitch and Cam, they judge so hard, but in such a loving manner. Mitch and Cam are probably my favorite characters on Modern Family mostly because of the way they are always involved in everyoneâs business and they want to help. In this episode, Mitch and Cam conflict on whether or not Haley would be cheating by not talking to Arvin.
Another plot of this episode is Mannyâs Canadian girlfriend. Everyone assumes that itâs a made-up girlfriend, and Gloria continuously reminds Manny of how she would accept him if he came out as gay to her. Itâs an episode based on love and trust. This episode takes place in the summer, so itâs a really great escape if youâre missing the warm weather!
Suddenly Last Summer (Season 5, Episode 1)
Manny is off to Colombia to visit Gloriaâs side of the family. After a series of problems with the trip, Jay is ready to get rid of Manny. At the end of the episode, he remembers how much Manny means to him and itâs such a sweet moment.
During the other part of the episode, it is announced that gay marriage has been legalized. Gloria and Claire help Cam and Mitchell, respectively, propose to each other. Gloria wants to see a sweet love story come out of this, but Claire sees a somewhat gruesome explanation as the best way to propose. I love love. đ
Schooled (Season 4, Episode 2)
This is the âPhils-osophyâ episode that gives us new ways to thnk about life, such as âwhen life gives you lemonade, make lemons, and then life will be all like, what?â or âif youâre ever in a jam, a crayon scrunched under your nose makes a good pretend mustacheâ.
Becoming a college student made me realize how important it is to be kind to your family. Haleyâs want for independence, but need for familial love is very relatable. When she sits down to read her Phils-osophy book after she moves in, you can see how much she already misses her goofy dadâs jokes.
Please, at least give Modern Family a try. Who knows, you might just feel seen by one of the characters!
