While Halloween is commonly known for horror; not all people enjoy being scared, myself included. So, I decided to put together a list of classic, non-scary Halloween movies to watch with friends, family, or even on your own so that myself and all my non-horror friends out there can still enjoy and celebrate Halloween in the comfort of knowing we’re safe.
Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a fun, entertaining movie about three witches: Winifred, Sarah, and Mary. These three witches are brought back from the dead by a teen named Max when he lights the ‘black flame candle.’ However, these witches are only brought back for one night unless they are able to complete a certain mission…
The Addams Family
The Addams Family focuses on a unique family. They wear nothing but black, the parents allow their children to play with sharp objects, and they live in front of a graveyard. I know it may sound off-putting, but The Addams Family is a hilarious, enjoyable movie. In fact, so many people enjoyed the movie that a second movie had been made.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare before Christmas takes place in Halloweentown. Our main character is a skeleton named Jack, who one day falls upon a place named Christmastown. Jack becomes so enthralled with the idea of Christmas that he decides to take over the holiday. This can be a fun movie to watch with friends; and there are even some debates going on about whether it’s a Halloween or Christmas movie.
Ghostbusters
There are multiple Ghostbuster movies, so whichever one you choose to watch is up to you. Although, I recommend the Ghostbusters released in 2016 with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. These four women prove that ghosts do in fact exist as they prepare for a battle where more than 1,000 ghosts attempt to take over New York City.
Hubie Halloween
Fans of Adam Sandler may want to watch this movie, as he plays the main character, Hubie who is a quirky and devoted community volunteer. Hubie spends Halloween protecting his small town from danger when people start to go missing under suspicious circumstances.
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Although I would not count It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown as a movie, it’s simply too good to not add on the list. We follow Charlie Brown and his friends as they get ready for their big Trick-or-Treat night. Meanwhile, Linus, Lucy’s younger brother, spends his night in a pumpkin patch hoping to get a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin King.
