The love I have for bagels is truly unmatched. They are what I consider a comfort food and the absolute greatest food around. I honestly eat a bagel every single day of my life. I started eating them for breakfast when I was younger, and it has turned into something I could eat for every meal of the day as I have gotten older. So, as I consider myself a bagel connoisseur, I wanted to rank my top five favorite bagels.

5. Garlic

Starting with a very savory bagel. This is one that I tend to reach for when I am having a bagel for dinner. However, I will only eat this from a bagel shop. For it to be a good garlic bagel it has to be fresh and warm. The spread for this one that I found compliments it the most is either a vegetable or chive and onion cream cheese. Both of these spreads will amplify the pungent flavor of the garlic.

4. Everything

I know this is a lot of people’s favorite however, it is not mine. I am not always in the mood for all the seasonings so I do not see myself consistently reaching for it. Another more savory bagel that is typically chosen at dinner time for me. I typically will use a plain cream cheese for this one or even a butter honestly. Butter on a plain bagel I think is not reached for as much as cream cheese but it is still so good. The butter allows for the seasonings on the bagel to show through more than when it has an overpowering cream cheese on it.

3. Blueberry

Finally to the sweet bagels on this list. I had my first bagel freshman year of college when they were out of plain bagels at the dining hall. It reminded me of a blueberry muffin, especially with butter. It was such an immaculate taste, especially for people who love sweets like me. It is a good switch-up from the savory bagels every once in a while.

2. Cinnamon Rasin

This will always be my second choice when said shop is out of my number one choice. The cinnamon flavor from the bagel and the spongy texture of the raisins amazes me. And the diversity of this bagel when it comes to spread is one I severely enjoy. I have the ability to use butter or cream cheese. Butter reminds me of a coffee cake muffin while cream cheese reminds me of a cinnamon roll cheesecake. The perfect bagel to remind you of a sweet treat.

1. Plain

And finally for my favorite. I know this sounds bland, but it will always be my favorite. It can be simple or complicated. The options with this one are endless. You can go simple with just butter or bring in any flavor of cream cheese to add to the experience. One of my favorite combinations is a plain bagel with plain cream cheese, cucumbers, red onion, and tomatoes. It sounded questionable to me at first, but it is so fresh. I love being able to have freedom with my spreads when it comes to a bagel and the plain bagel is the best for that.
