A moment to catch my breath.
With fall break around the corner, I never thought I would make it this long to even get a break. College has been a rewarding and challenging experience. I can’t say I know everything or what I want out of this experience, but with time that will come, so I won’t rush.
I know most of this break will not be a total break. Professors will still give out assignments and this time might be for getting ahead on studying for exams. The work does not stop, but we get a little breather by visiting family and friends. With that being said, it’s important to allow yourself this break. If you are anything like me, you will be stressing about your next exam or trying to get all big projects done during this break. These are all fair and effective ways to spend the time, but do not forget about you.
It is hard to allow yourself to be “lazy” for a day, but sometimes, life is draining. Allow yourself to fall back in love with hobbies you might have pushed off. Read a new book, go on walks, and view the world in ways you never seen it before. Do anything but homework for a day. For a month, most of us have been on a routine but this is a chance to regroup and take a minute to enjoy the life you have now. Be appreciative and be proud on how far you have made it.
If you feel uncertain right now, this break is a great reminder that you’re doing enough. For this break, I hope to face my fears and be better at doing my part, whether it be in my clubs or talking in classes. Reflect and move on because tomorrow is a clean slate. Think of this break as your forgive and forget and come back knowing that you are doing fine.
I am taking my own advice for this break and allowing myself the right to enjoy the simple things in my life. I am excited for a new book (I will be reading ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens, if you wanted to know!) I will get to see friends for the first time in a month and get some well-needed sleep. With all my love, I hope you take this opportunity to do the same and keep striving for a great semester!
