The day of the 62nd annual Grammy Awards was a tough one. Just hours before the award show started, the world received devastating news that Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, along with seven other passengers, died in a tragic helicopter crash. All of Los Angeles were heartbroken by this tragic news, and thousands of fans showed up at the Staples Center, where the award ceremony took place and which Bryant also built, to pay their respects.

Though a lot of people were heartbroken by this news prior to the ceremony, those at the Grammys did what they could to lift up everyone’s spirits. That the Grammys would be a celebration/tribute toĀ Kobe.The Grammys kicked off with an amazing opening performance by Lizzo, followed by an opening speech by host Alicia Keys and a song with Boyz II Men. Both of these lovely, talented women payed homage to Kobe’s legacy. More tributes came from other artists such as Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus, DJ Khalid, and more. There were so many performances by several artists, including Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Jonas Brothers, Tyler the Creator, Camilla Cabello, Demi Lovato, and many more. There was also a few combinations with artists such as Blake Shelton with Gwen Stefani and Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, Roddy Ricch, YG, and John Legend, with their tribute performance to the late Nipsey Hustle.

The Grammy’s was a big night for a lot of artists, especially for Billie Eilish. She won the Grammy’s that night, winning five out of six of the awards she was nominated for, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. She became the youngest artist ever to achieve this big at the Grammy’s and she accepted her awards with class. While accepting the awardĀ for Album of the Year, she acknowledgedĀ singer Ariana Grande stating she should have won instead.Ā
