In todayâs age of communication and virtual interaction, mobile devices have become practically indispensable. Fortunately for us âphone-obsessedâ millennials, SCAD Atlanta understands the needs of the modern human and installed a series of cell phone charging stations around the campus. I delve into the hacker man innards to see how it works.
The Veloxity charger kiosks are relatively simple, I am quick to realize. A series of mini-lockers with varying cables (for iPhones, Samsungâs and C cords) are layered above one another. In order to use one, the simple user interface prompts you to âSelect a Lockerâ on the touch screen, provided they arenât all occupied: red internal lights accompany a charging device, green lights mean vacant. Once a locker is selected, you are requested to input a four-digit code and to confirm it; the chosen locker then opens, allowing you to plug your phone in and to securely lock your device. Similarly, the unlocking process is equally as simple. Basically, you select your locker, input your code, and voila! â your device is returned to you charged and ready to go.
Personally, I find these charging kiosks to be invaluable. As I spend most of my class time looking at memes or playing with new Snapchat filters, my measly iPhone battery is easily drained. Having these charging stations close at hand, with locations in the high traffic area of the Hub and the work stations on the third floor, is oft a lifesaver, particularly when Iâve forgotten my own lightning cable at home. The kiosks are definitely a great resource to have, with perhaps the only negative being that your phone is inaccessible as it charges (arguably still a pro if it means Iâm not staring at my phone screen 24/7.)
Overall, the Veloxity stand-alone charging stations are a valuable resource I am so grateful to be provided with, as it eliminates the stress of a dead phone and more worryingly, falling behind on current meme trends.
