Sports aren’t just for guys, and what better way to get in the college spirit then by following the March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournament? Whether you go to all your schools games or know literally nothing about sports, following it for these 3 weeks in March can actually be very fun for you and your friends and here’s how.
To begin with, convince your group of friends or co workers to do a bracket competition! You can do a small buy in so the winner gets a cash prize. Get your brackets in by the start of the tournament, March 14th. There are several ways to pick your bracket choices for those who do not follow basketball:
Coin Flip: Assign one team as heads, one as tails for each matchup, Heads moved ahead with the win to the next round and tails looses.
Team Color: See what color is the teams away uniforms are (school colors) and choose your favorite! If they are the same color look at shade.
Team Mascot: Some colleges have some pretty funny and pretty ferocious mascots. Choose your winner based on which mascot would win in a fight!
Pick Upsets: Takes risks and choose the underdog. All bets are off in March Madness and every year a major upset wrecks the brackets of even the most knowledgable, so don’t be afraid to predict the number 16 seed will take out #1 in the first round (it happened last year)
Accents: Say each team name in a French or English accent and decide which one sounds better!
Once you have had your fun with picking brackets, pick one person to score them through the tournament. Start a group chat, Facebook group, and meet once a week to see who’s leading and talk about the unlikely results and use it as a way to get together. Root for your school if they are in the bracket, or simply find pride in your choices.
For the finale game, get together! Have a viewing party with the group to complete the competition and award the winner their prize. You could even create a dare or challenge in the beginning for whoever scores lowest in the bracket to be completed at the finale! It is the perfect time for traditional sports food – nachos, burgers, beer, fries, wings, and maybe even jello shots in the 2 teams school colors.
Whether you are a huge sports lover, or just love to do things with your friends, March Madness is the perfect way to spark camaraderie and competition for the month. Follow along at http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/basketball-men/d1
