Locals are the pride and joy of this city we call Scranton. We never cease an opportunity to enlighten our fellow peers with random knowledge about the city where we all currently reside. When it comes to food, we go far and beyond the downtown circle. Other than our keen sense of direction and common historic knowledge, our roots allow either the praise or the ridicule of our New York/New Jersey/small town right outside of Philly friends. So, what is it like when you’re the only townie in your friend group?  Here are 10 things EVERY local kid has heard.
1. “I would hate it if I stayed home for school.”I did not  “decide” to “stay home.” Mind you, I decided to attend this gorgeous and pristine University that happens to be located right in my backyard. Also, I like doing my laundry at home for free.
2.”So, can you take your car out this week?”The number of times you want to visit Target and Chipotle is getting out of hand, Long Island native. What would you do if I, too, did not have a car here? Alas, I love a good road trip, how about next week we go to the movies?
3. Â “Where can I go with my parents when they come in?”Try going all the way to your hometown because you will find nothing here.Â
4. “What are you going to do over break without us?”I have friends and family too…
5. “Does it even feel like a break?”It feels somewhat similar to an absence of school, which is quite like what a break is… for everyone.
6. “That person is from here, do you know her?”Do you think I know EVERYONE who is from Scranton!? But yeah actually, she used to go out with this kid who sat behind me in algebra sophomore year.Â
7. “When we graduate, we promise we’ll come back to Scranton to visit you.” Â Â Â Â Please keep assuming I will never leave.Â
8. “You’re so weird, you’ve never had New Jersey bagels?”I do not live in New Jersey, therefore I have not had a New Jersey bagel. Have you had a Scranton muffin? NO? YOU’RE SO WEIRD.
9. “Scranton pizza is terrible… I don’t know how you’ve been living here your whole life.”Have you ventured out of DeNaples and CK’s and tried actual Scranton pizza? No? I guess I’m the one who’s going to have to drive you then.
10. “Can we stay at your house for parade day?”One thing is for sure, you are always ALWAYS welcome at my house.Â
