20 Ways to Prevent the Pre-Break Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

1. Map out when everything is due:    To prevent stress organize yourself! Color coordinate your classes and use your calendar to stay    aware of due dates.

2. Tackle the most important assignments first    We all know that our “to do” lists keep growing this time of year. It is best to get your hardest and    most weighed assignment out of the way first. You’ll feel amazing once it’s finished and be ”       motivated by how easy your other assignments look now.

3. Download a countdown app    There are dozens of apps out there, download one that creates a countdown for you. Whenever    you look at your phone you’ll see just how close to break you really are!

4. Exercise!   Take an hour break and hit the gym, work your stress out on the treadmill while you rock out to   some Beyoncé. You’ll channel positive energy and be ready to study.

5. Go out to dinner with a friend    Step away from your books and leave your laptop behind. Call up a friend and see if he or she    wants to grab a bite to eat. It’ll be great to have something other than campus food and will give    you time to socialize.

6. Find the perfect study spot     Search for a place to do your work where you don’t feel overwhelmed. Maybe fifth floor is too    quiet for you but your room is too distracting. Find a happy medium so you can do your work    and not feel antsy.

7. Get into the holiday spirit!    The holidays are right around the corner! Bake holiday inspired snacks or decorate your dorm.    Blast some Christmas tunes and forget about your worries for a little while.

8. Video chat with your friends from home      You haven’t seen your friends from home for months schedule a skype date. Seeing your     friend will make you even more excited for break and it’ll give you time to catch up.

9. Take a social media break    We all love our social media apps. Spend a few minutes to catch up on Twitter or see what your    favorite celeb is up to on Instagram.

10. Meditate       If you’re feeling overwhelmed take some time to yourself. Step away from your laptop and try      some breathing exercises or even download a meditation app!

11. Meet with professors     They want to help whether you realize it or not. Prove yourself to them and show your     commitment to school. Schedule the perfect time to chat about your current progress and     what you can do to help your grade come final time. Also, inquire about extra credit (because you     never know).

12. Recommit       Pick it up! This is no time to quit. Recommit yourself to your studies; make promises and lets do      this. Set aside time each night to study for quizzes and exams and complete each assignment on      time, this is no time for slacking.

13. Have some fun       It’s ok; go enjoy some time with your friends. TNS and Pennies will miss you over break anyway.

14. Go to class      They know, our professors keep a special eye on who comes to class these last couple of weeks.      Show your shine and attend each class and participate, trust me, they calculate grades based on      this stuff.

15. Don’t procrastinate      This was so three weeks ago. Don’t be the one who has to explain to their professor why this      assignment is late. Get your work done on time to avoid the panic attack and guilt trip.

16. Reward yourself      Seriously this is key. You deserve and don’t let anyone tell you different. Whether it’s indulging      on that cupcake or a mani/pedi DO IT, you won’t regret this.

17. Caffeine is your friend      Our nights are about to seem longer than our days, avoid the 9 p.m. crash by fueling up with      some extra caffeine (fyi: chocolate has caffeine, win).

18. Study in groups      We all need someone to vent about how stressed we are or how excited we are for break. So      where is everyone going Black Friday shopping, oh wait that’s not on the flashcard.

19. Sleep      You need it so don’t avoid it. Maintain a healthy sleep schedule to maintain a healthy you.

20. Call your mom      They are superwomen when it comes to these moments. Moms cure everything, call her up and      talk about something other than school for the sake of your sanity. An over-the-phone hug is all      you need.
