Summer is the time of year to relax and enjoy yourself, and it’s finally almost here! Here are five suggestions on how to make the most out of your summer!

1. Read a great book

As college students, we don’t have enough time or energy during the academic year to read for fun. Spending the summer at home is a great stress-free time to catch up on reading. Reading for pleasure is nothing like reading for school – it’s 10x better, and it’s the perfect excuse to sit outside on a nice day and get some Vitamin D. Plus, reading is good for our mental health: it opens up new doors in the mind and broadens our perspectives. So turn off the TV and head to Barnes & Noble or your local library because there are so many great reads out there!

2. Be Active

Take advantage of the beautiful weather and try getting exercise outside of the gym! You can be one with nature and try hiking, bike riding, swimming, or simply taking your dog for a walk at the park. Taking about thirty minutes of your day to get physical is a great way to look and feel great!

3. Find A Hobby

I recently did a puzzle the other day, and while it sounds super lame, it was actually therapeutic and enjoyable! Between cooking, painting, learning how to play the guitar, art projects, photography, and more, there’s a hobby out there for everyone. You can also try volunteering in your community, which will not only make you feel good about yourself for helping others, but it will look great on your resume!

4. De-Clutter

Get busy with some belated spring-cleaning! Throughout the years, I’ve managed to somehow collect tons of stuff I don’t need, and it feels like my closet has multiplied. Whenever I get rid of unnecessary junk I feel so much better; it’s oddly refreshing. You can even donate some clothes you no longer wear to Goodwill and turn it into a good deed!

5. Explore Your Surroundings

On a day off from work, grab a group of friends and take the occasional day trip to the beach, a museum, or explore a town near you. You’d be surprised at all the cute little shops, restaurants, and cafes awaiting you that are only a car ride away!

Have a wonderful summer and enjoy your well-deserved break!
