HC: Tell us, how you picked your major?
HS: I started off as a biology major with the intent to go to medical school. Sophomore year I was considering getting a minor in counseling because I had an interest in those classes. I could also always tell I wanted to do something in that field. By the end of sophomore year, my friend sat me down and basically told me that biology wasn’t for me and I should really consider changing my major because I was putting so much effort, and wasn’t getting the results I wanted. The next day I went to career services and advising, and switched to counseling.
HC: That’s awesome! What is your favorite part about being a part of the Counseling and Human services major?
HS: It’s made up of real life scenarios and I sincerely feel like I am training for a real life job. I feel like I learn a lot from my peers.
HC: You just received your first internship here on campus. Who is it with and what goes into it?
HS: I am working at the Jane Kopas Women’s Center on campus. I will be on the committee for Take Back the Night.
HC: Take Back the Night is a great event, what aspect are you most looking forward to within the event?
HS: For the first time, I am actually going to be behind the scenes instead of participating as a student. I am excited to put together an event that is so empowering for so many of our students. I think of myself as an activist by helping run this event.
HC: In the spirit of Valentines Day this past weekend, tell us about your boyfriend.
HS: Correction, he is my manfriend and he doesn’t really believe in Valentines Day. He thinks it’s a ‘Hallmark holiday’ and has no meaning… lucky me. He says he doesn’t need a holiday to say he loves when he can just do it everyday…yeah right.
HC: Who do you miss the most when you leave for school?
HS: My “wittle doggus, Sadie, that mom wuvs to hold.” She is my pride and joy and without a doubt prettier than me. There is nothing I love more than walking in the door and watching her jump and wag her whole body because she is so excited. She is my happy pill.
