How does it feel to be one of the top players in history to play for the women’s basketball program at Scranton? It’s an honor because of the long tradition of excellence that women’s basketball has had and all the great players the program has produced over the years.
How did it feel becoming the Lady Royals’ all-time career assists leader, beating 504 assists Wednesday night and setting the new record to 510 assists? It felt really special because it’s an accomplishment that I could not have achieved without all my teammates over the past four years.
What did you do once you beat the record? How did you, your parents, your teammates, and coach react to such a milestone in your life?I breathed a huge sigh of relief because I was nervous about it but everyone was extremely happy for me and congratulated me. I just wanted to make sure we won the game and could celebrate afterwards.
How does it feel clinching the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs? Do you feel the team will make a long run in the playoffs and NCAA tournament? It feels awesome knowing that after our game on Saturday we won’t have to travel and we will have home court advantage for the landmark conference playoffs. I think this team is a special one and that we have a lot more basketball to play and have the chance to make a huge run.
What impact does the Lady Royals basketball team have on you?It has a huge impact on me because not only has it made me the person I am today, but I met some of my best friends because of being a member of the lady royals. The impact it has had on me is indescribable.
What’s your fondest memory in Scranton uniform? My fondest memory has to be winning the landmark conference championship last season on our home court and cutting down the nets. Also, I enjoyed hosting the NCAA tournament and beating Vassar College to make it to the sweet 16 of the tournament.
Do you find it hard balancing schoolwork and basketball? At times it is hard, especially being an exercise science major, but you figure it all out eventually. It definitely helped playing sports my whole life and learning to balance school and homework at a young age.
Do you plan to continue playing basketball post-graduation?Sadly, not as a player but being at Scranton for another three years in the physical therapy school I cannot imagine not continuing to help out the team in every way I can.
Who has the biggest influence on you and why?My family but mostly my older sister Courtney because she has overcome a lot in her life, including a hearing loss. She recently completed the physical therapy program at Scranton and is now Dr. Fluehr and works as a physical therapist.
