From a Catholic’s perspective, Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It’s a time to feast and let our hair down before the Lenten season begins. Commonly known as “Mardi Gras” which translates to “Fat Tuesday” in French; this day has a renowned reputation for its celebration in New Orleans. Even though the NOLA celebration is known as the best, we all know “there ain’t no party, like a Scranton party.” Whether you’re looking for a night out or a day of stuffing your face get ready for this ‘phat’ day.
Raise your hand if you’re not opposed to pigging out on food and partying for this occasion…
We may not have access to Café du Monde’s beignets (like the students in New Orleans) but that doesn’t mean we can’t feast. Each year second floor DeNaples is turned into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Tons of sweet treats, including a chocolate fountain are there for all to enjoy.
Instead of heading out to the French Quarters in NOLA we can head on out to Good Fellas for TNS. It might not be filled with costumes and beads but it will definitely be filled with people ready to party.
Scranton is normally represented by the colors purple and white, but let’s celebrate ‘Phat’ Tuesday by dressing up in purple, gold and green. Add a little flare to your typical attire and channel your inner Mardi Gras.
