How To Stay True To Yourself On Social Media

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

It is so easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others, especially on social media. How can you not? There are people posting every second of the day pictures of themselves doing fun things with cool people. What I learned is that you should not feel pressured to post the same thing as others. You do not have to create a certain aesthetic or edit your photos in an exact way.

You must do what feels right to you.

Personally, I tend to post to remember certain occasions whether I go somewhere exciting, feel good about myself, or am hanging out with my friends and get a cute picture that day or night. I finally do not feel pressured to post at a certain time. I tend to just spontaneously post in the moment.

Whether that is on my story for 24 hours or a more permanent post with a fun caption, I think social media can bring out my creative side. It also allows me to connect with old and new friends so I can keep up with what they are doing.

The key to this is accepting that you are your own unique person that no one can replicate.

Therefore, you should not try to replicate someone else.

There are so many social media apps out there. You can choose to have them all or just a few if you maintain a healthy balance of using them and putting them away. It can be a very dangerous game to scroll and scroll until you realize that the sun has set. But remember, while it is fun to see what others are up to, you will not have your own memories to post about if you don’t go out and live your life.

Everyone’s experience with social media will be different, but I hope you enjoyed reading my perspective :)
