Ideas for A Refreshing Spring Break at Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

As spring break rolls around thousands of college students across the country travel to places such as Florida or Mexico to enjoy beachside vacations. Based on social media or even just word of mouth it may seem that almost everyone is embarking on a tropical beach vacation. However, taking a spring break trip can be expensive and sometimes chaotic to plan. If you find yourself staying home over spring break, here are some suggestions for activities. I know I am thrilled to head back home and spend a week relaxing!

Watch a New Show

During the work-heavy weeks of the semester, sometimes you must sacrifice your television time to promote your academics. Recently, there have been numerous popular shows that have either just been released or come out with new seasons such as One Day and Love is Blind on Netflix. Spring break provides the perfect opportunity to sit back and enjoy a new film or revisit a comfort show. If you enjoy baking, think about baking some treats to accompany your movie marathon. There are so many videos floating around on social media that take you through each step of a recipe.

Take a Day Trip

Even though you may not be heading on a serene beach vacation, spring break still offers the freedom to discover a new area that might be more local. Consider taking a road trip to a charming town or lively city for the day. If you are unsure about how to plan your visit, there are so many websites and articles online that include recommendations for the best restaurants and unmissable destinations.

Rediscover Your Hometown

While you’re home it can be nostalgic and comforting to take a trip down memory lane and revisit your favorite cafes or shops. When you are back at school you will likely miss those places so take advantage of the access you have to them while at home. Going for a walk or hike can also be a peaceful activity to participate in while at home.

Get Ahead on School Work

While you should absolutely spend the predominant amount of your vacation time relaxing and regrouping before the second half of the semester, think about taking a few days to look ahead to the coming weeks and get ahead on some assignments. It’s always a reassuring feeling when you come back from a break and know you are on top of your work. Spring break can offer the perfect opportunity to catch up on any missed assignments or ensure you have the smoothest end to the semester by getting ahead of your work.

Whether you’re spending spring break at home or on the beach, I hope you’re able to unwind and relax with family and friends!
