Make way for this week’s celeb as she is no stranger to the spotlight. This future teacher is ready to RENT the stage in her upcoming performance. Read on to learn more about Lori as the curtain calls one last time.Â
Name: Lori Travers Major: EducationYear: 2015Hometown: Chatham, New Jersey
HC: Can you tell us a little more about the Liva Arts Company? How was it formed?LT: Liva Arts Company is a club on campus formed in 1990 that produces two amazing musicals every year—ALL run by students but hey, we don’t like to brag.
HC: How did you become involved in the Liva Arts Company? How long have you been a member of the company?LT: I became a member of Liva Arts Company my sophomore year when my roommate was involved in a production and I experienced extreme FOMO (fear of missing out) and had to audition for the next show, and I’ve been a member ever since!
HC: What are you most excited about for this performance of RENT?LT: My heart says “to deliver the message that life is too short to not take risks and always fight for something/someone you want”…but my head says “to see one of my best friends (Johnathan McNamee) dress in women’s clothing”
HC: How do you feel knowing this is your last performance here at the University of Scranton?LT: It makes me feel like I need a drink…or 5.Â
HC: What made you want to be a teacher? Do you think performing has helped prepare you for your career?LT: Considering I can’t sit still in a desk for more than 3 minutes, I broke almost everything in my high school science labs, and I want summer vacations forever—I figured teaching was a solid choice. Performing has definitely helped me prepare for my career—it showed me that I like being at the front of the room with all eyes on me (kidding…kinda).Â
HC: What other clubs and organizations are you involved in?LT: I am a member of Urban Beats Dance Crew, the President of the Student Education Club, and the President of Kappa Delti Pi, the education honors society.Â
HC: Can you tell us a little more about your role in this performance?LT: I play Maureen Johnson, who can be described in 3 key phrases, power-belting, pelvic thrusts, and cowbells.Â
HC: Describe the Liva Arts Company’s performance of RENT in one word.LT: Passionate.Â
HC: What is something most people don’t know about you?LT: I have a deathly fear of whales.Â
HC: What would be your advice for someone debating about participating in the performing arts here?LT: In the words of Kanye West, “Believe in your flyness, conquer your shyness.”Â
