This girl is probably the sweetest, most genuine person you will ever meet. She is one of my best friends who shares my love for women’s soccer, Dunkin Donuts coffee, the number 13 and is single handedly the most talented person I know. Scroll down to read more about this photographer extraordinaire.
Name: Emma BlackMajor: CommunicationMinor: Studio ArtYear: SeniorHometown: Clarks Summit, PA
HC: What’s your favorite thing to take pictures of and why?EB: I really like sports photography because I kind of have a knack for it. I really enjoy being able to watch sports while doing photography. I also like taking photographs of animals because it’s fun to try and capture their emotions and personality.
HC: What’s it like working for The Aquinas?EB: It is my fourth year working as photography editor at The Aquinas and it’s a lot of fun! I get to work with some really fun people. It’s a rewarding experience because I know the other photographers are excited to see their photos in the paper, so I feel good when I can make all their work come together.
HC: So you worked on a local production this summer, tell me about that experience?EB: I got to be a production assistant with PBS Kids during the making of a parent testimonial. My main job was to keep two young kids occupied and lively in front of them camera. I also got to help set up lighting and other equipment. From my experience, I learned that you should always shoot more than you need. We shot b-roll for about four hours and only used about 30 seconds!
HC: What projects are you currently working on?EB: I am doing sports photo shoots for the Abington Heights girls soccer team and the North Pocono boys soccer team. I’ll be photographing them and making collages for their seniors. I also have a few more photo shoots coming up!
HC: What is one piece of advice you can give to people who are interested in photography?EB: With digital photography don’t be afraid to shoot a lot, but also don’t be afraid to delete a lot. Showcasing mediocre work may hurt your credibility.
HC: What do you plan on doing after graduation?EB: Hopefully, I can get a nice starter job in the local area to continue to practice photography for a year or two. Eventually I want to move to a location where there are bigger photography opportunities.
HC: What is your dream job?EB:I would like to be a professional photographer and get to photograph the biggest sporting events in the world like the Olympics.
