CKs vs Scranton Pizzeria
The age-old debate. You will know everything you need to know about a Scranton student after asking them where they end up after a night out. I used to be a CKs girlie, but after maturing I have since seen the error of my ways. Now, I am a Scranton Pizzeria girlie through and through.
“Scrantastic Day”
If you’re on campus, you’re bound to hear “Have a Scrantastic Day” at least once. It’s so annoying, it’s so cringe, but it’s so Scranton.
Scrantacon
Scrantacon is Scranton’s own version of Santacon, and it’s one of the biggest events of the year. It takes place the last Saturday before Finals every December—and the kids go allllll out. Everyone decks out in ugly sweaters, Christmas pajamas, Santa costumes and more! It’s a great way to end the semester and truly get into the holiday spirit!
The Office is irrelevant here (but sometimes the cast comes!)
When I first came to Scranton, I was shocked to find out how many people had never seen The Office. As someone who absolutely loves The Office, this deeply disturbed me. However, my only solace in this epidemic is the fact that the cast has been known to come back and visit. For instance, in the Fall of 2022, Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone), came to the U to promote his new cookbook.
The walk to Hyland/McGurrin/Mail Room is brutal
Having a campus on a hill is all fun and games until you have to climb back up the hill to get to your dorm/apartment/house. A truly humbling experience that is certainly not for the weak.
Parade Day
“Parade Day” is Scranton’s most anticipated event of the year. As one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country, people come from all over to experience the festivities held the Saturday before March 17. For Scranton students, we go absolutely all out. While the seniors go on their bar crawl, the underclassmen raid the Hill Section dressed in green from head to toe. There’s music, games and of course, the infamous “Ginger Run.” Last year videos of the “Giner Run” (also known as the race that the redheads on campus partake in) went viral on TikTok and garnered millions of views.
Pasta Lou
The heart and soul of Scranton. Our literal king.
