Daily Dose of Cecilia

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

The first time I met Cecilia, my view of Benson workers instantly changed.  They were no longer all just nameless, dreary people who always seemed irritated whenever I would order anything.  We have all experienced how Benson workers can be a little cold sometimes.  We have all waited for twenty minutes for pasta at Sauté only to discover they cooked it with the wrong sauce and forgot the vegetables.  Both Benson and its workers can be a little difficult to deal with sometimes.  This makes Cecilia’s delightful personality and bright presence even more special.

Cecilia adds a friendly dynamic to the collection of unexcited Benson workers.  She adds charm and personality to the group.  In fact, she is the exact opposite of many of the other workers.  My freshman year, I would go to the Cellar multiple times a week (sometimes more than once per day) and whenever I would see Cecilia working, it would instantly brighten my day.

I recently heard a story about Cecilia, which I found to be reliable; maybe you’ve heard it, too:  Apparently, Cecilia and a student here at SCU talked in the Cellar a few times a week.  They got to know each other fairly well over the years, and became pretty close.  When this girl graduated, Cecilia cried.  This is just one of many instances that show exactly how much Cecilia cares about the students she sees and talks to at the Cellar, no matter how minuscule the impact is on us.  She never fails to ask you how your day is going and actually want to know how your day has been.

If you’ve been to the Cellar at all during your time here at Santa Clara, odds are you’ve either met Cecilia or have heard of her.  Most of us have seen her, but for those of you who haven’t, I highly suggest that you make your way down to the Cellar sometime this year to receive your dose of Cecilia.   This cheerful, happy-go-lucky woman never fails to brighten my day whenever I find myself venturing down to the Cellar to grab some food.
