When You Need Some Light in Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SDSU chapter.

We have all heard the saying “people with big hearts get hurt the most.” Sometimes we give people more love than we give ourselves. Sometimes we end up giving so much of ourselves to someone else that as soon as they leave we put up a wall so high that we are terrified of being loved again. What we forget is that there is great strength in vulnerability. We forget to acknowledge the fact that in order to love others fully, we can’t neglect the importance of loving ourselves. It’s okay to be selfish with your time and not to feel ashamed when you feel the need to remove someone or something from your life that isn’t making you happy. It’s okay to not be okay. Sometimes we all just need reassurance that we aren’t alone even when we feel lonely. Removing negativity from your life in any regard can only help you develop into a more desirable you. It’s necessary to understand that in life you will either grow together with the people you surround yourself with, or you will grow apart.

There are situations  in which you may feel as though you are on top of the world, like everything is going right, and you feel happy for once. The worst part about this is when you are feeling happy, you don’t want something to happen that could potentially ruin that happiness. In moments like this, try to remind yourself that it’s okay to live in the present, that everything happens for a reason and if something isn’t going as planned, it will make more sense in the future. Enjoy the opportunities that are coming your way and don’t be afraid to reach out and explore options.

The process of knowing your worth can be a difficult one. What has helped me in this journey is always showing kindness, because I believe that kindness builds confidence. Do what is in your control and the rest is out of your hands. Just because you are alive doesn’t mean you are living, so make sure to live each and every day fully and make every moment count.

You are too beautiful and far too capable to not make an impact on this world so try your best to surround yourself with people who spark your flame and fuel your potential to become the best version of yourself and nothing less.
