Get Groovy at Quadstock 27: Our Recommended Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seattle U chapter.

A few days ago, SEAC released the lineup for this year’s Quadstock music festival and we couldn’t be more stoked about it! This year’s set is a nice mix of pop, funk, electronic and hip-hop. There will be performances on two stages: one at the Union Green, which is put on by KXSU, and the other at the Quad, which is put on by SEAC. To get you pumped (or should I say quadstoked ha ha ha) for the big day, here’s our recommended list of songs from each artist who will be performing at Quadstock!

THE UNION GREEN STAGE

The Union Green lineup was created by the wonderful folks at KXSU! This stage features the cream of the crop of both local Seattle bands and SU bands, too. Check it:

Champagne Babylon

Kicking off the day will be Champagne Babylon, an indie rock band consisting of SU chums Paul Fitzpatrick, Cody Sargenti, Bryce Pierce and Ryan Young. The EMP describes them as having “a glossy disco-pop sheen that’s sure to get your feet moving.”

Recommended song: YBG

Moguls

Previously known as Albatross, Moguls is a local folk band with a semi-punk twist. You may have seen them perform at last year’s Battle of the Bands, but now, that post-grad life has given them a new name and new music, too.

Recommended song: Restless in Mind

Campana // COSMOS

Campana and his band COSMOS have been making waves in the local music scene. Some of their songs are funky, some are jazzy, some are more hip-hop-esque, and others a combination of all three. As the winners of this year’s EMP Sound Off! battle of the bands, this collective of talented artists will be performing at Sasquatch, Bumbershoot, and, of course, this year’s Quadstock! Trust me, this is one performance you won’t want to miss.

Recommended song: Living Proof

Pitschouse

Pitschouse is a three-piece shoegaze/reverb pop group local to Seattle. They are an example of just how great the DIY music scene can be, as they have single-handedly put on tons of local shows with other local artists. If you love local music, this is a band you should definitely get to know!

Recommended song: Thebes

Trees and Timber

Trees and Timber is bound to get you dancing. This Tacoma-based band is composed of Joe Baker, Gwen Lewandoski and Paul Rybicki. They describe their sound as “aggressive pop supreme,” which is actually pretty accurate. It’s the perfect music to listen to on a sunny day at the Union Green.

Recommended song: Good Is In The Graveyard

THE QUAD STAGE

Michael Jordan & The Bill of Funk

MJ & The Bill of Funk was the winner of this year’s SU Battle of the Bands and as such, this band will be gracing the Quad stage! This group mixes rap, funk and jazz, making their sound and overall stage presence completely dynamic.

Recommended song: Breakfast For Your Weekend

DJ Santa Maria

To shake things up a bit, Seattle University alumni DJ Santa Maria will be providing his beats to the Quad! He specializes in electro house, deep house, and EDM music, so get your dancing shoes on and prepare for his electrifying set.

Recommended song: Believe In Future Bass Set

Dev

You may remember Dev from her work on top hits such as “Like a G6” and “Bass Down Low.” But in addition to this, Dev has come out with a bunch of new (and really good) music and has even started her own record label called Rica Lyfe. She’s collaborated with artists such as Demi Lovato, Timbaland, and Far East Movement. Her latest single, “Low Key” is a little more soulful and melodic as compared to her earlier work. We can’t wait to hear a mix of her earlier and newer work!

Recommended song: Low Key

Saint Motel

Saint Motel is an indie pop band hailing from Los Angeles that specializes in incredibly catchy, brass-driven beats. They have performed on multiple stages including Coachella in 2015 and even on Jimmy Kimmel Live! This lively quartet has toured with artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Imagine Dragons and Weezer. Their single, “My Type,” peaked at number 9 on the US Alternative Chart in 2015. Their set will be the perfect way to end off the night!

Recommended song: My Type

From the Union Green stage to the Quad stage, you’ll be exposed to a variety of music: hip-hop to funk, local to national, brand new to well known. Get your ticket and get down at this year’s Quadstock on Saturday, May 21st. Tickets are now on sale for $20 at the CAC. You can get more information on the official event page here.
