It’s that time of year again! Time to go back home for the holidays and see all of the friends and family that you’ve been away from for months. You don’t think that you have changed much as a person, but surprise – being a student at Seattle U has changed you much more than you know! Here are some of the ways that we believe SU has changed us; let us know in the comments below how SU has personally changed you!
“I have become increasingly more pretentious in terms of art, music, political views, and films.”
“I can never live anywhere where it take more than 5 minutes to get to the nearest coffee place.”
“Why can’t I walk home from parties back at home?”
“When I come home and mention words like social justice, appropriation, or affirmations people either laugh, give me a blank stare, have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, or don’t believe that those things are real.”
“SU ruined my ability to eat food that is not organic or humane.”
“Trash… Recycling… Where’s the compost bin, California?”
“Why do I not have a multitude of pho options back home?”
“When I go home, I get really worried about how I’m going to get around without the Night Hawk, Lyft, or Uber.”
“I was volunteering at the hospital the other day, and my supervisor was going over the different toys we had for the children. He brought out the coloring books, saying that we had specific ones for girls and specific ones for boys. I got really annoyed and thought to myself about where the gender neutral books were.”
“SU has ruined me for comfort food back home because of rancho bravo, dicks, marios, street meat, fish fry. Shall I go on?”
“Overhearing a family member make a slightly racist joke or sexist remark and wanting to politely correct them.”
“My brother told me that I was ‘irritatingly politically correct'”.
“I am able to engage in a genuine discussion of a controversial topic here without worrying about being judged, and I know that my points are always heard and taken into account by my peers.”
