I knew that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ran the government behind the scenes but it didn’t hit me that other SNL women were also on that team till Unicode, the company that produces emojis, decided to diversify for 2015. Okay, SNL cast member Sasheer Zamata probably wasn’t the one who convinced them to join us in the 21st century but her awesome segment on Weekend Update deserves a little credit in Unicode’s decision to diversify their emojis for the iOS 8.3 update.
What’s that? You heard right! Instead of six different cat faces, two different kinds of dragons, and six generations of a white family, there will be some accurate representation! In the newest iPhone update coming out sometime in 2015 (rumored in July), Apple will be offering the option to choose between skin colors for different faces as well as adding same-sex family emoijs.
