4 Ways to Make Easy Money Before Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.
Summer is fast approaching, and truth is, we all could use some money going into it.  Whether you have an awesome internship lined up or are choosing to stay home and find a spontaneous job, nobody can turn down having a little extra spending money before the semester is even over. Here are some simple ways you can try to make that extra cash!

1. Ask your professors if they need any babysitters

Babysitting is a great way to make cash on spot.  For one, you don’t have to worry about paying taxes on the money you make.  And two, you basically get paid to have fun being a kid again or to hold cute babies!  In high school, this was my favorite job, and I loved being able to have fun while making money.  Teachers in particular are probably in need for someone to help out as they have their hands full with grading due to the upcoming end of semester.  You should definitely reach out to see if they want you to watch their kids while they grade, or ask if they simply could use a break from grading with their spouse.

2. Check out Bark’N’Borrow

I recently found out about an app that one of my facebook friends explained as being “Tinder but with dogs and money.”  I was like, sign me up! After checking it out, I saw that her description was very true.  Bark N Borrow is a way for owners to find reliable people to play with their dogs while they are busy with work, etc. All you have to do create a profile and swipe through a list of dogs in your area, deciding which ones appeal to you… basically like Tinder.  Great thing is, you can get paid for watching someone’s dog.  It’s like a Tinder date without the craziness or awkwardness. Check it out!

3. Sell Your Unwanted Clothes to friends

As you are preparing to pack up your room in a few weeks, you are probably noticing lots of clothes that you don’t wear anymore.  Whether you have outgrown them physically or just don’t care for the style, get rid of them.  Instead of letting them take up space in your closet, why not see if your friends want them?  I bet they have clothes they don’t want either. Why not set up a trade system with friends? My sorority has a page where girls can post clothes they don’t want anymore and either ask a desired price or see what people are willing to offer.  If you don’t have cash already, see if you can snag some new clothes by trading with someone who wants something you already have! It’s super easy… just make a facebook page with others who are interested and post pictures of clothes you want to get rid of!

4. Sell Your Books to Belltower Books

If you have books that you never want to lay eyes on after your final exam, don’t burn them! Sell them! Sometimes the bookstore won’t offer you much money for books, sometimes no money for older editions.  If you want to get a better deal and cold hard cash on the spot, look into selling your books to one of our campus’ Belltower Representatives.  They are students, just like you.  Seem too good to be true? I recently joined the Sewanee chapter of buyers for this awesome company, so I know it is LEGIT. Some science textbooks can go for 100 dollars.  And what’s even better is that these books then get put on Belltower’s Website to be sold to students for lower prices.  It’s a cycle that keeps on giving.  All you have to do is reach out to one of your campus representatives, have them meet you ANYWHERE, and they will tell you how much your book is worth after scanning the barcode on the back of your book.  If you decide the offer is enough for you, you can get cash right then and there and don’t have to do anything else. Easy right?
