Campus Celeb: Jewlz Davis ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

Jewlz Davis C’16 from Brentwood, Tennessee is more than just a familiar face around the mountain. He volunteers his time at numerous organizations, including CRU bible study, Activate Grundy, LEAPS, W.D.C., and the Arcadian program. He enjoys devoting time to others. Not to mention he is a three time intramural champion in club basketball. Talk about a triple threat. Jewlz has also recently participated in Sewanee Monologues and the feMENisim event. It’s safe to say when Jewlz graduates he will be leaving an extraordinary legacy.

Family means a lot to Jewlz, especially being one of five kids. He has three younger sisters and one older brother. “I have a great deal of respect for my mom and my dad is my hero,” he said. Which then impelled me to ask about his passions. Jewlz enthusiastically replied, “I’m passionate about my faith, my family, helping people, and positively impacting kids.” Swoon. How sweet? It was very obvious when speaking to Jewlz that he has an extreme sense of selflessnes; it was inspiring. “Faith inspires everything I do, faith gives me hope.” His past experiences and relationships have influenced who he is now and who he has become and he truly believes:”What you go through shapes who you are [as a person].” After such experiences, he adds, “We have two options [in our life]: we can run to or from God. This is where the idea of free will is beautiful and scary.” Ergo, the reason and reasons why Jewlz feels so strongly about helping children and freshmen here at Sewanee. Moreover, it is abosolutely necessary to “instill determination and perserverance” within these kids. “They need it. When I see a kid their potential is endless.” He loves that the kids are just as passionate as he is about being there. It’s encouraging to him and it inspires him.

There’s no telling what Jewlz will get involved in next. Honestly, he may find a cure for cancer if he keeps going at this rate. Who knows? Whatever Jewlz does decide to do you can go ahead and assume that he will most likely be volunteering his precious time, effort, and energy in order to enhance society. Could anybody ask for more? So Jewlz, go ‘head with ya bad self and keep doing what you’re doing.

I'm currently a freshman at Sewanee: The University of the South, I play varsity field hockey and just recently started writing for Her Campus (yay!). I love Pinterest; some would say I'm actually addicted, I can spend hours at a time just pinning. I am a food enthusiast, but I'm not really one for baking or cooking, more like eating--only. Oh and netflix is my best friend.
