Here’s why we love her!

What is your most embarrassing Sewanee story?

I broke a table at Beta Mountaintop – danced too hard.

What is it like to be a Sacristan in All Saints?

It’s one of the best things I do here. Our job is to set up for services and help them run smoothly, and what I love is being able to walk around during church, and thereby learn the significance of every part of the liturgy. I’m an English major, and so the rich symbolism of the services is so interesting to me – I don’t think I would understand it very well if I didn’t have to be so engaged in what’s going on all the time. Also, the group that I am a part of is wonderful. Being able to go to all three Lessons and Carols is not so bad either.

What is your one piece of advice to freshman who might be looking into applying to be a Sacristan later this year?

Applications come out in February, so if this is an interesting prospect to you, let the idea ruminate. It’s a very enjoyable and calm process. So, if you enjoy the All Saints atmosphere and think that walking around and helping the services run on Sundays with a very close group of people sounds appealing – think about it!

What is on your Sewanee Bucket List?

I want to go to every away formal there is.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’d like to be an English Professor at a small liberal arts college in New Mexico if Sewanee won’t hire me.
