Sewanee Spring Break: Expectation vs. Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

Expectation: You and all of your friends will get a house at the beach and rage hard all week and love every minute of it.

Reality: You and all of your friends will get a house at the beach and sleep/do homework/drink by yourselves all week and you will love every minute of it.

Other (more common) Reality: You don’t get a house with anyone and you just go home and cuddle with your dog and eat and sleep a lot.

Expectation: You will be going out to clubs and bars and making tons of new friends with other college students who are just as enthusiastic about partying as you.

Reality: You go out to a club the first night and are immediately reminded of how much you dislike state schoolers.

Expectation: You will take a whole week to let loose and totally forget about school.

Reality: You will take a whole week to become more anxious about how much work you have to do when you get back to school.

Expectation: You will get naked and funnel beer and do all that other crazy stuff they show on MTV.

Reality: You will just end up judging all those crazy people who get naked and funnel beer and do all that crazy stuff they show on MTV.

Expectation: You will lounge on the beach all day and get an amazing tan.

Reality: You will lounge on the beach for an hour and get so sunburnt you have to stay indoors the rest of the break, because the elusive Sewanee winter sun did not prepare your skin for this.

Expectation: You will have the most outrageous, wild, ridiculous week of your entire life.

Reality: You realize you do that anyways every single weekend at Sewanee and you don’t understand what the hell all the fuss is even about.
