Taylor Swift is ALWAYS the Answer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

Who is the one person whose songs always hit you straight in the gut with their accuracy and yet have the ability to make you dance your troubles away? That’s right, Taylor Swift! Ever since her single “Tim McGraw” came out in 2006, she has amazed us with her ability to speak to our hearts and, in many cases, heal them. Sure, she has been in plenty of failed relationships and many people give her heck for it…

Exhibit A:

But you wanna know something? SHE’S HUMAN…She makes mistakes just like the rest of us, only she allows for her failed relationships to fuel the songs that become our favorite jams.  So if anything, shouldn’t we be thankful that she has been in so many relationships? I mean, after all, we might not have the song “I Knew You Were Trouble” to rage along to when things go amuck in relationships if she hadn’t been through the same thing. She has the ability to make us feel like princesses as we sing along to her fairytale or to make us realize we are independent women who can have fun with our girlfriends. Here are 13 of her top songs that show just how talented her career has been and remind us of how much her words mean to us:

1. Our Song (2006): From the days when Tay had more of a country sound. It’s just a feel good song that gets stuck in your head!

2. Fifteen (2008): Because who didn’t want to stay 15 so that they could continue to relate to this beautifully true song?

3. Love Story (2008): Taylor allowed us to all picture ourselves as princesses who can be wooed by a prince!

4. You Belong With Me (2008): The tragic reality of what it feels like to be in love with your best friend and him not notice. This music video ranks among the best of all T-swizzle music vids in my honest opinion.

5. Mine (2010): A feel good song that still includes the realities of what it’s like to be in a relationship.  While there are ups and downs, its worth it if “[he’s] the best thing that’s ever been [yours].”

6. Mean (2010): Nothing anybody says can keep you from achieving your dreams… not even MEAN people. Even Taylor Swift has people who were mean to her, and just look where she is now!

7. 22 (2012): Whether you are 22 or just pretending to be so that you can jam out with your girlfriends, this song reminds us that you don’t need a boy to be able to have fun in life. All you need are friends who will stay by your side no matter what… and dance with you to this song of course!

8. Both of Us (2012): A fantastic collaboration with B.o.B. that warms my heart every time.

9. Everything Has Changed (2012): Explains the potential that lies in any first meeting. Who hasn’t fantacized about a handsome stranger they’ve met and all the possibilities that could be waiting…? And the video is so sweet

10. I Knew You Were Trouble (2012): We all have gone for that one guy who we thought would be different with us and ended up being nothing but pure trouble. Yet why did we go for him? It’s a mystery, but at least we know Tay has been through the same thing!

11. We Are Never Getting Back Together (2012): This gives us the strength to say “No, I’m better off without you”… A great song to get over whatever guy is in your past and say confidently that you are never going to get back together with him… LIKE EVER!

12. Blank Space (2014): everything in this song is amazing. As the lyrics say, any relationship can go along the lines of “So it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna go down in flames.” While the song is onpoint, let’s be honest, the music video is BA… BOMB AWESOME!

13. Shake it Off (2014): “Haters gonna hate.” Perfect song for whenever something just is not going right… Just remember that life is hard, but you dont need to be dragged down by the haters, fakers, heartbreakers, players… Instead, you need to shake off all of the bad stuff and remember that life is good! Just look at how much fun Taylor has in the video. And “just think, while you’ve been getting down and out about the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world, you could’ve been getting down to this sick beat!”
