Women’s Basketball Team

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

The Sewanee women’s basketball team is great, and I was excited to talk with freshman Katie Wayne and write this article. You should definitely go out and support them at their next home game: Feburary 5th, Friday night at 6pm, and you can stay to watch the men’s basketball at 8pm, both against Milsaps!

What are the team’s goals for the year?

Our goal this year is to win the conference championship and go on to NCAA tournament. We work really hard every day to try to get 1% better so we can get closer to achieving this and being the best we can be.

What are some of the team traditions?

We have traditional chants and prayer before games. And also every year we play secret Santa for Christmas!

Do you have any team experiences or fun stories to share?

This year we went to Ocoee River and did a team competition. It was an obstacle course where we split into two teams and had to race against each other (my team won) so that was really fun and after that we ate and went white water rafting together. It was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had for team bonding, honestly.

How often do you practice and how much time do you all spend together?

We practice about 2.5-3 hours a day and we basically spend half of our time together between practices, traveling, and staying in hotels.

What’s your favorite part about being on the team?

We love each other like a family and really get along, so it makes playing basketball so much more fun.
