I couldn’t be more excited!
I am back again to write about my favorite K-pop boy group, and the astounding achievement they’ve made in this month alone. If you haven’t been keeping up with this season’s awards, let me tell you that the American Music Awards (abbreviation: AMAs) is going to be happening Sunday, November 19th, at 8/7pm central. It’s the eighth most watched awards show in the United States, and it just so happens to be the same award show that my favorite group, BTS, will make their first American TV debut on.

For those who don’t know, BTS is a seven member, Korean boy group from the company BigHit Entertainment. They have been steadily gaining hundreds of new fans from around the world for the past four years now, me included. However, despite collabs with western artists (i.e. The Chainsmokers, Desiinger, and Steve Aoki, etc.), this will be BTS’ first live TV performance in America. It’s because of this reason that I had to write this article and ask people around the SFA campus of their thoughts of BTS’ achievement.
“I don’t really care, but good for them,.” Was the answer I got when I asked Jonathan Adewusi for his opinion. He told me his general feelings towards K-pop, not really caring for it, but he still offered a nice, standard answer, which was appreciated.
I then asked his friend, Lauren Hoots, about her opinion. It was quite funny, because I had no idea I was talking to one of the founders of the SFA K-Pop club. She is currently the secretary of said club, and gave me some insight on her feelings as well as her fellow club members.
“I’m hyped as f*ck, I’m literally so excited!” Hoots said. “All the girls in K-pop club are so excited. They (BTS) are going to be on Jimmy Kimmel [late night show] and Ellen soon too!”

Lauren continued to tell me more and her hypothesis about other K-pop groups opportunities in the Western world.
“They [really] are opening the door for other K-pop groups, boy and girl groups, to the US of A,.” That is a quote that I agree with 100 percent. It’s no secret that there have been other K-pop groups to perform in America on live TV, (i.e. Girls Generation, Wonder girls, PSY) but— personally—I feel there is something that is different about this time. Maybe it’s because I love BTS, or the fact that these boys have started from the bottom and are still rising up.
Nevertheless, I am exceedingly excited for the 19th of this month, as well as for BTS’ appearances on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, and the Ellen Show!
If you wish to learn more about BTS, please go ahead, and watch some interviews they had with Billboard, J-14 Magazine, PeopleTV, IHeart Radio, and many more.
